This project started about 3 years back to address the industry requirement for innovative technology solutions for telecom towers to meet green and financial objectives. Two game- changing products have been developed & commercialized in this project:

1. Optimization Tool: Provides site-focussed recommendations on green & cost management initiatives, allowing the cellular operator reap maximum benefit from industry innovations in this space
2. Site Monitoring System: Enables tamper-proof collection of energy data points to bring transparency in energy billing & provide critical insights for decision making on green & cost management initiatives.

A TCOE India Incubated company founded by innovators from TICET, IIT Bombay is commercializing these innovations.

Industry Traction

The solutions have been successfully tested in pilot rollouts with several leading cellular operators and infrastructure providers. Thanks to strong support from COAI, AUSPI & TAIPA (industry bodies of cellular operators & infrastructure providers) the incubated company is currently doing wide rollouts in over 10 states with leading operators.

These solutions will help cellular operators realise their green ambitions & meet the DoT 2012 guidelines towards carbon footprint reduction in an optimized & cost-effective manner, thereby creating value for all stakeholders.

Expected Tentative financial benefits for Telecom Industry and the country in reduced energy costs when implemented at 50% out of 400,000 BTS sites across the country, would amount to annual savings of ₹ 500 -1000 crores.

Thus, with just one technology's success out of TCOEs initiative, would give multiple times returns on total spend on supporting R&D at various TCOEs.
